Pstores.exe/unknown page faults
I've been having occasional Pstores.exe page faults in module unknown recently while on line.
I've restored Pstores.exe with SFC, and deleted the Protected storage key in the registry and had Windows put it back through c:\windows\system\pstores.exe -install.
Does anyone have any further thoughts about this error?
Thanx, Tony

No one at all? JohnKing, Mosaic1? Anyone?
I've ended up making a shortcut to pstores.exe, but needless to say, that's no kind of solution...

Hi John,
Thanks for your reaction.
I'd seen the article already. As a matter of fact, that's where I got the idea of running c:\windows\system\pstores.exe -install
Forms fill out at normal speed, and OE's really fast too, so this is not the cause.
I've searched the Net with Google.com as well, but unfortunately there's not that much to be found about this file, in any case not with regards to errors.
This error takes place every 4 hours or so, and it doesn't seem to cause any trouble otherwise, so I guess I could live with it.
It just bothers me I can't seem to get to the cause.
I've mailed to Roboform support in order to hear if they've had any reports of this happening with respect to that program, but I haven't heard from them sofar.
I'll post here if I happen to find the fix.
Thanks again, Tony

Forgot to mention the other article you dug up with respect to the Fun Love virus, but I have NIS, NAV, BOClean and the Cleaner resident, and I'm a compulsive updater and scanner. I also hardly ever open an attachment of any kind, so I think we can rule that out as well.

Hi John,
I sure have, and I also have the latest version of IE 5.5 SP1 from Windows Update, so that could'nt be it either. I think we'll just have to wait for someone who had a similar experience. Maybe it'll turn out to be a Roboform issue.
Thanks again,
Tony

Hi Mosaic1,
I do it routinely after installing most software, so spyware's certainly not the cause.
This having been said, today my error hasn't occurred up till now, and Pstores.exe is still happily active according to my process viewer, so I'm mildly optimistic...
Thanks, Tony

Just to let everyone who tried to resolve this with me know how I've fared since, on a hunch I wrote to NSCleaan support (the makers of BOClean, my trojan scanner), on their advice I sent them a copy of my BOClean.ini, and within half an hour (no kidding) I got the following response from Kevin McAleavy:
"You seem to have the magical combination of "TCLOCKEX" and Norton ...
they have shown signs of unhappiness with BOClean's stealth module here and
there. There's a special patch for this situation which you will need to
ftp download from the link below. This will kick BOClean into a special
mode that will deal with your other problem.
I've installed the patch and haven't experienced the problem since.
I'm impressed!
