Trouble moving to 64 bit
I am running now with windows 8.1 32 bit. I have a disk with 64 bit that I would like to install because of call of duty ghosts requirement which requires 64 bit operating system. I have 3.20 gig amd phenom 2 x4 processor with 8 gigs of ram. Geforce gt620 graphics card with driver of 331.65. when I boot off disk to install 64 bit the screen looks horrible but was able to get the license key in to install but when it rebooted the monitor says it lost the signal and get a black screen. Don't know if it is the processor that is 64 bit ready or graphics card or what. Ended up putting 32 bit back on with no problems

kspeel--You need a CPU (central processing unit--usually made by Intel or AMD) that's capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows.

AMD Phemon 2 x4 is a quad core that is a 64bit cpu and motherboard. His computer meets the requirements to install that operating system. But as I don't run Windows 8 or it's versions, you might want to await others input on why the 8.1 won't install.

Wonder if the upgrade assistant would shed some light on that.

At that point I'd try booting into Safe Mode with Networking (repeatedly tap [F8]) to see if it was viewable there. If so, I'd head to straight to Windows Update and install all available updates (except Bing) with the hope that it would install the correct video driver(s).

Was able to get it up by unplugging monitor till full install was complete. THen did updates and ran into same thing. During the boot the monitor went to 640x480 and went to sleep. Had all the latest update for the video card as mentioned above. So pulled the GeForce gt 620 and bought xfx r7 240 radeon card and the system boots and works perfect. Looks like GeForce dropped the ball on this operating system . This issue is resolved now but that's a heads up to anyone that has that graphics card

As long as the driver you're using works, no. New is not always better and we always tell people if the one you're using works, no need to update.
