Insert and Print Screen are two separate buttons on a regular keyboard. Are you sure you don't have to toggle something? It works fine in XP.
Did you try to install the phantom device without drivers? Even if it can't find drivers, it should come up in "Other devices", and no longer prompt you.
Did you install the modem drivers or not?

My bad, I meant PrtScn/SysRq. Usually I can tap that key on any computer's keyboard and immediately paste the resulting temp memory's contents into a graphics or word program, but not in this case. So I tried tapping on both keys simultaneously, but no soap.
Yes, the modem drivers were installed as part of the multimedia audio controller package, I'm pretty sure.

Modem and audio are two separate devices. Double check it.
Hmm. Print Screen should still work on XP. Maybe it's a keyboard problem? Just plug in a usb keyboard and test it out.
There are freebie screen capture programs too.

HI,
Plugged in a USB keyboard, which works fine, but nothing goes into temporary memory when I tap prt sc, sysrq or both. Accessing the right-click menu shows a greyed-out Paste selection.

Hmm. Try Fn + PrtScn and see if that works.

Unfortunately did not work. I'm wondering about keyboard drivers...no, I don't have any more yellow question marks in the Device Manager, but maybe there are newer driver updates?
Just sayin.

You don't usually need keyboard drivers. The only drivers I see are for the "Quick Launch" buttons. You can give them a shot.

I already gave you the link a while ago. Please bookmark it.
Look under the Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices section.

You never confirmed if the modem was installed or not.

Ok. That's good.
As I mentioned earlier, there are alternatives to print screen. They also use the PrtScn button by default, so that would confirm if your button is working or not.

OK, sir, here's the culprit. BTW, Greenshot is a fine program and very easy to use for screen captures ; )
This annoying little bugger continues to appear. It's not the end of the World, but it would certainly be nice to figure out how to get rid of it.
Thanks again.
