Resolved [RESOLVED] Seven Windows Updates Will Not Install

    Windows 7 Ultimate
    intel core I5 cpu 650 @ 3.20GHz 3.33GHz
    RAM 8.00 GB
    64 bit
    Service Pack 1

Windows Update says I have 8 important, 7 selected. I click on install updates. All 7 fail. Errors are Code 2 and code 66a. I click on get help with this error and #4 shows up in red Troubleshoot problems with installed updates. This takes me to the "Fix it". I run the "Fix it" and is says found problem and fixed them. So I try to install the 7 updates again and all 7 fail. I try manually installing the updates and all fail. I turn off Microsoft security and try installing the updates. All fail. I get the same results with code 66a.

Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info let me know.

    Thanks

What are the KB numbers for those patches?

66a seems to be related to .NET. What versions of .NET do you have installed? Win7 comes with .NET 3.5 by default.

If you installed .NET 4 and/or 4.5, you might want to clean them out first. See if the other Windows Updates go through, then try reinstalling .NET 4 and/or 4.5.

    Thanks for the reply!

    kb2656351
    kb2736328
    kb2742595
    kb2804576
    kb2468871
    kb2533523
    kb2606217
    the 8th one is kb2836939

I went into install uninstall programs and selected view installed updates. I found Microsoft.NET Framework 4 client profile(11) and Microsoft.NET Framework 4 Extended(1). Are these the right ones? By "clean them out" do you mean remove them? I can't seam to find anything that says repair.

Did you look at the second link I posted? It's the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide

    kb2656351 - .NET patch
kb2736328 - not listed, but i see there is ndp40-kb2736428-x86.exe, which is .NET
    kb2742595 - .NET patch
    kb2804576 - .NET patch
    kb2468871 - .NET patch
    kb2533523 - .NET patch
kb2606217 - could find this one on the ms site (please double-check)
the 8th one is kb2836939 - .NET patch

Pretty sure your .NET is messed up.

I did look at that link but was concerned when it said it might mess up other .NET files. Do I not need to worry about that or can I just run that? I also made two mistakes in copying the kb numbers. The second one should be kb2736428 and the seventh one should be 2600217. I apologize.

At this point, I don't know how much more you can mess up .NET. Did you try just uninstalling .NET 4?

The majority of the patches are .NET, so it's likely it needs to be repaired/reinstalled.

I am assuming I go to add remove programs and then go to view installed updates to remove .NET 4. There were two. One said Microsoft .NET framework 4 client profile (11). When I tried to remove it a screen came up saying "Product does not apply." The second one said Microsoft .NET framework 4 extended (1). It uninstalled. Are these the ones I needed to uninstall? I tried installing the updates again and all of them failed.

Yup, those would be the two entries.

From the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool page:
This tool is designed as a last resort for cases where install, uninstall, repair or patch installation did not succeed for unusual reasons. It is not a substitute for the standard uninstall procedure. You should try the steps listed in this blog post before using this cleanup tool.

If you already tried the fixes in that link, then try the cleanup tool.

Ran the "Fix microsoft windows update issues" and it said Problems found "Windows update error 0x80070057(2013-07-03-T-02_16_20P) not fixed. Also Check for missing or corrupt files-detected- with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point.

Cool. I've run into similar problems with .NET before and the MS Fixits have never worked. Still, it is better to go through the proper methods first.
