    Regarding your post #42, you wrote you were looking for some restore points but found none: I went back through my notes and on June 5th, my husband Joe went into the System and Security features and restored the system back to 5/31/2013. There was another date to choose from, 5/22/2013, but he chose 5/31/2013. It restarted to a blank screen. Then he ran a PC Doctor Full System Test. I wrote down the list of items that failed the test;
    1. Hard Drive: Smart Extended Self Test
    2. Hard Drive: Surface Scan Test
    3. SMBIOS: Standards Test

    I don't know if the above means anything or will help, but I posted it anyway.

    That would explain your issues.
    It looks like you may have failing hard drive...

    Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...ost__p__160520
    Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
    Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
    If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.
    For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://storage.toshiba.com/storage-s...ies#diagnostic

    Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here

    I read it more than once. It looks like I may have a failing hard drive. guess it didn't sink in. Or maybe I don't want to believe it. What do you suggest at this point?

    The HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test (WINDFT) could not be done in Safe Mode, and if I go into Normal Mode the computer is just frozen.

    You're not reading my reply carefully.
    You have to create CD and boot to it to test your drive.
    There is nothing in my reply about Windows Drive Fitness Test.

    Hi. Sorry I've been MIA. I'm afraid I've run out of time trying to fix these problems. I think it's best if at this point I take it to a local computer repair technician. I greatly appreciate all of the help you have given me, you have been awesome. But if I don't get my laptop fixed very soon it can cost me some business. So once again I say THANK YOU, BRONI!
