Resolved [RESOLVED] I don't even know how to describe this...

I'm at a loss how to even describe this question... ok, let me try. This pertains to Google Chrome for windows, if it matters...

When typing an address into the "address bar", I have auto-complete turned on. If I'm trying to go to mapquest (for example), I'd start typing "www.map..." and at just about THAT moment, "www.mapquest.com" shows up on the address line, so I just press ENTER to go there... ok...

But, if I just type "www.ma" without the "p", although the auto-complete suggestions show up underneath it, if I DON'T arrow DOWN to actually choose "www.mapquest.com", but rather just press ENTER (remember, the only thing on the address line so far was 'www.ma'), GOOGLE somehow decides for itself what to substitute, and in THIS case it's a "health" related website, "www.kissrisk.com".

My Question: Just how in the hell does GOOGLE determine what to substitute here? Is it based on paid advertising or is there some other voodoo/hoodoo involved???

I don't think anything is wrong with your system.

I think that's how the url is listed in Google search. If you google "www.ma", it shows that kissrisk link (I used Firefox, not Chrome). If you use Bing or Yahoo, it doesn't show. I'm not sure what the reason is, but that's just what I see.

well, I never even thought that maybe the DNS servers actually had a listing for that... teach an old dog new tricks! Guess I'll worry about the next thing...
