Open Windows Explorer, right click on C drive, click "Properties" and let me know what it says about "space used"/"free space".

    That's better.

    Recently i added a 512 MB RAM9 6 months back) to the existing 256MB.

Is there any chance that now the addition is not working.

of course the system shows the addition of both.

RAM and a hard disk space are two different things.

See if you can install Avast or MSE now.

Well, that may be the issue.

I purchased my system Ten yrs back 2nd hand when my knowledge on computers were Greek & Latin.

If the soln is Lisensed version,i can go for it now.But my usage is casual & Home purpose only.

"Windows did not pass genuine validation" will be causing you all kind of issues.
The best way would be to call Microsoft to verify your Windows installation.
In cases like this the call is free.

I can't mark it as "Resolved" until I hear what you found out when you call MS.
