Countdown Screen?
I was surfing the web and like usual one of my cats was lying on the desk in front of the keyboard. I was using the scroll wheel on the muse when she rolled over to the keyboard. Just like that my screen turned to white with a red digital countdown (digital like 10:00, you know) in the center. Don't know what key or key combo she hit. Is this a hidden feature of XP? A "Ester egg" type situation?

That doesn't sound familiar. What happened after it counted down?

I don't know what I did exactly. It happened fast - trying to get her off the keyboard and at the same time I was clicking kinda randomly. I think after a couple of clicks, the countdown screen went away and the web page I was on came back. I forget now which web page it was when this happened, but at the time I thoroughly inspected that whole page to see if there was a advertisement or a link, whatever that might have been the source of that countdown but I found none.

Well, it was a keyboard shortcut of some kind. There aren't any Windows shortcuts that do that as far as I can remember but there are a number of third party programs and possibly some specific keyboards with added features that do..
eg- http://www.google.ca/search?q=ease+o...w=1338&bih=777
I'd suggest getting your kitty to assist
