Several wifi choices appear on Kindle Fire HD -- but which one is from our router ??
I just got a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" for my wife, for Mother's Day, and I wanted to get the wifi connection resolved before giving it to her, so that it's ready-to-use.
When the "wireless screen" comes up, it displays several wifi choices. I'm very good with PC hardware, but not with networking/wireless stuff.
1.) How do I know which wifi choice belongs to our router, and
2.) What are the other wifi choices that are appearing? Is the Kindle "homing in" on neighbors' wifi signals?
Let me know what other info is needed to help with this, I'll be glad to post it if I can.
Thanks in advance,

Yes, your WiFi device should be able to see all of the WiFi signals around you . . . but, most will (should) require a password when you attempt to connect.
You can set your router's broadcast name to whatever you like, (maybe "Star-Gazer" for example), along with a password that will be required to attach to your router's WiFi.

Thank you, Doc. Unfortunately, the broadcast name and password is/are only part of the problem.
After entering an obviously incorrect password, the screen on the Kindle Fire HD displayed the message "Authentication failed." The big problem is, it refuses to display a blank password text block to allow me to try again. Every time I go to another screen (or even reboot the Kindle), and go back to the Wireless screen, it simply displays "Authentication failed" again and again, and will not give me a blank text block to try a password again. As I said, I've tried rebooting the Kindle, and also rebooting the router -- neither have changed things.

Amazon.com > Connecting your Kindle Fire HD 7" to Wi-Fi > Remembering and Forgetting Wi-Fi Networks
- Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Wireless.
- Ensure that Airplane Mode is Off.
- Tap the name of the network, and then tap Forget.

Thanks again, Doc !! That did it. As for the password itself, Verizon was able to give the P/W for my router, and the Kindle Fire HD is now connected !
