For the past 2, 3 days, when I watch videos on YouTube, they stutter a lot and pause for long time. It happens with both IE8 and Chrome 25.
My internet connection is good and solid. And, the funny thing is that streaming videos from other sites has no problem at all. As far as I can tell, it's just YouTube. Is there anything wrong w/ YouTube for the past days that you guys know of? Or, is it just me seeing this?
Forget to say, the YouTube videos just pause for no apparent reason. It's not buffering - at least it doesn't say it's buffering with the usual rotating circular arrow thingy.
Chrome just updated to version 26. Note that Chrome uses Pepper Flash instead of Adobe Flash. There is a way to use Adobe Flash, but you'd need to download the "plugin" browser version first.
Chrome just did updated to 26 today when I started it.
I got no problem this afternoon, both w/ IE8 and Chrome 26. Now, at about 9:30 EST, I do.
Example video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVdQ2HwMtx0
It just pauses twice as I am typing this. Both last for at least 1 min. Mmmm, just pauses again. (BTW, as you can tell, I am doing research on e-cigs.)
What baffles is that if the problem is hardware or software related, wouldn't it affects all streaming videos? But it doesn't. I can be streaming a few videos at the same time on different sites and only the stream on YouTube will have troubles.
So you have both the IE and the plugin versions of Flash installed?
It sounded like a network load issue, but if that was the case FF should have been affected too. You can try using the plugin Flash on Chrome, but you need to disable PepperFlash first.
Open Chrome
In the address bar, type: chrome://plugins
Click Details
Click Disable for PPAPI under Adobe Flash Player
(C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\26.0.1410.43\PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll)
Click Disable for PPAPI under Native Client
(C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\26.0.1410.43\ppGoogleNaClPluginChrome.dll)
Make sure that NPAPI under Adobe is enabled
(C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_6_602_180.dll)
When I get to Adobe it says I have already the 11.6.xxx. However, in IE Add On manager, the Shockwave Flash Object version is 11.3.xxx. Looking at the "more info" in add-on manager, however, the "file" version: is indeed 11.6.xxx. So it's confusing.
Anyway, the past couple of days, I have no problem. But it's Ester long weekend, so the traffic may be lower than usual. Will keep trying in the coming days.
I know the difference between Shockwave and Flash and I am NOT confusing the two of them.
"Shockwave Flash Object" is the Flash Player name for the Add-ON for IE. Likewise, "Shockwave Flash" is the Flash Player name for the Plugin for Chrome and FF.
Refer to this Adobe page: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/885448, or, you can open up the settings in your IE, FF and Chrome and check.
And I follow the link in the above Adobe page to check my flash version and it does say I have the latest Flash Player version. Screenshot attached.
