[RESOLVED] Prompt to open .htm and html files
I just did a Repair Install. Most things went well.
One glitch is that when I try to open .htm files in Favorites I get the prompt shown in the screenshot. I just click Open, but it is a nuisance. This does not occur with .htm files already downloaded to the hard drive.
I assume this is caused by a setting in IE Internet Options (perhaps Security or Advanced tabs), but I cannot determine which one.
Can you tell me the setting?
I already checked in Default programs that IE is the Default program for .htm and .html files.
Good Grief! I cannot find how to add the screenshot.
In text, here is what it says.
What do you want to do with xxx.htm?
open (the file won't be saved automatically)
save

I figured out how to attach screenshots, I think. Attachment 11123
This seems a new and overly complicated procedure.

IE may be the default program, but there still may be a file association issue. You might try a fix from one of the links below:

jdc2000--Thanks for your response.
It turned out I needed to do an IE9 Reset! I could not believe it, since I had only installed IE9 a day ago when the Repair Install gave me IE8.
I would not have thought a new install of IE9 needed a Reset.
I wonder if anyone else has seen that prompt.

IE9 = junk
IE10 = beta
I have seen too many strange issues with IE9 for me to be using it, and since IE10 beta is already out, IE9 is unlikely to see any fixes for issues.
