Resolved [RESOLVED] My SSD is quickly filling up unexpectedly.

I am running Windows 7 and have a 60GB SSD. Recently the drive has started filling up to the point where I now have less than 1GB left. I have run the disk cleanup utilities including removing all but the most recent restore points. However, this has recovered very little space. I have 26GB in my Windows directory, 7 GB in Programs and 19GB in Users. I have very few music, photograph or video files.

Are there any log or temporary files I can delete, that are not cleaned up by the cleanup utility? Or do I need to move my User files to a thumb drive?

    Regards,

    Glyn

Your Windir seems normal, but your Users folder is pretty big. How many users do you have on that system?

You can use Windirstat or Treesizefree to see which files/folders are taking up the most space.

For temp files, I use Oldtimer's Temp File Cleaner:

    Hi Midknyte,

Only one user on this laptop. I had a look at my User directory to see what I can take off. Despite the root showing 19GB used the My Documents folder is using 2GB and all other folders are using a total of 2GB. So if I am only using 4GB why is it showing 19GB used at the root?

I will use the tools you recomended and do some more investigation.

    Thanks,

    Glyn

    Hi Midknyte,

I downloaded WinDirStat and found a hidden directory AppData under my User directory. Under this directory we have Local\Temp. Temp is using up a whopping 10GB. Is it safe to delete everything under a Temp directory?

    Thanks,

    Glyn.

10GB of temp data is huge. Glad you got it sorted.
