Need help booting into Safe mode on my HP netbook using XP and no optical drive

My nephew came over the other day and was playing with my netbook. Apparently he changed my login password and cannot remember what he changed it to. I have read about being able to change the password back but I need to boot into safe mode to do it and no matter how many times I press the F8 button on the keyboard the only boot option I get is to boot into windows XP. Any help would be great.

There are no alternative methods of booting into Safe Mode.
Pressing F8 immediately after POST is only method.
    Link/article,
    Cheers.

Apparently even if you get into Safe Mode you still need your original Password in order to change it. Try continually rapidly tapping F8 when booting to get to the Safe Mode option.
