Using a basic cricket phone as a wireless modem or router for PC.

My roommate has a cricket phone setup with internet. Its a Samsung model sch-r631 phone.

Cricket says the phone is not the right kind for use as a modem via USB for the PC. We are wondering if there is any way that anyone here knows of to use it as a wireless router?

If that phone doesn't have wifi, you can't use it as a wifi router.

When you're looking to share a smartphone (or tablet) internet connection, look for for the words "tether"|"tethering" (wired) and "hotspot" (wireless).

Also, you may want to look closely at your service agreement or terms of use with Cricket. Even if you have a "unlimited" data plan, most U.S. carriers don't allow for tethering for free and they require you to subscribe to an separate service for that. This is controversial b/c a lot of users think that they should have the right to use the data bandwidth they pay for any way they want and that the carrier shouldn't charge extra for tethering. There are also a lot of discussions on whether a carrier will find out you are tethering or not.
