Older System Sluggishness and Memory Problems (?)

    Compaq Presario SR5010NX
    Celeron D processor 360
    Vista Home Basic
    512 MB RAM
    120 GB HDD
    Intel graphics media accelerator
    DVD/CD w/Lightscribe

    Morning,

It takes the pointer so long to stop twirling, I'm almost afraid to attempt Win7 Advisor to see if an upgrade is even feasible. Can someone please let me know what the max expandable RAM is for this older rig? It may be at its max already...and/or the memory may be bad at this point. I also should check for any virus/malware, so can malwarebytes be run from a flash drive with any faster results? I'd try an online free AV, but it would probably crash...bootup itself takes 5+ minutes.

    Thanks for all help,

    sbuxman

A search reveals that there should be 2 memory slots and you an have 1 GB per slot for a total of 2 GB. That would improve ther performance of Win XP or Vista significantly, and probably make Win 7 possible. www.crucial.com has a memory advisor tool to suggest upgrades. You don't have to buy from them though, if NewEgg has better pricing.
