Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) problem

I have a strange problem and wonder if you can throw any light on it. I use Secunia PSI to keep my HP laptop up to date. A recent scan showed that Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) needed manual updating although Windows Update said that Windows was up to date.
A Google search came up with a download called msxml.msi.
I did an Acronis system image and a System Restore point, just in case.
I then ran msxml.msi which seemed to install OK.
Running Secunia again now showed 5 Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) programs and said all 5 were in need of updating! Windows Update said they are up to date. The version numbers shown are:
    8.110.7601.17857 for 2 of the 5
    4.30.2100.0
    6.30.7601.17857 for 2 of them.
Thinking, I’ve now made the problem worse, I did a System Restore to the Restore Point I’d made before running the patch and ran Secunia again, but this still showed the 5 programs as being in need of updating.
In order to get back to the original position I ran Acronis to restore the System Image I’d made before starting, but each time I attempted this it failed after starting. Trying to restore earlier System Images also failed.
    Can you offer any suggestions?
    Mike

I ran a scan via Secunia PSI three days ago and it said that my Microsoft XML Core services is currently out of date ...

Microsoft XML Core Services is unnecessary as a standalone installation on Windows 7, various components of what used to be distributed solely as MSXML are now included in .NET Framework, Internet Explorer and Windows itself amongst other products ...you should be able to uninstall it just fine - if there's an obscure program installed which doesn't correctly interface with your system's inbuilt XML parser (occasionally a 'repair' from the programs applet is needed) here are the last released standalone runtimes (each will require several rounds of windows updates) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=6276 -and- http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=15697

Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) problem

Many thanks for the helpful info. I wish I'd had it before I started trying to fix it (ah! well..... we amateurs!) I can't say I understand all the tech stuff, but at least I know I can uninstall it.

    Thanks again
