I had recently formatted my HDD and have great results, but now when I attempt to use the built-in webcam, the device (Chicony) has no drivers. I was wondering if someone might be able to point me to a downloadable link so I can reinstall the drivers...the website ACER chat tech support referred me to only has an executable program to verify that the camera exists, which is how I got the Chicony name. There is also at least one unknown USB device showing up in the device manager...could that be it? Can someone please help me through this swamp? : ) I discovered the problem when I attempted to Skype with someone and was given an error message that no such device exists!?

    Thanks,

Did you try Acer's support? Go here or you could use the Download Hardware Vendor Detection Utility

    LAPTOP WEBCAM

As I mentioned in my post, I communicated with ACER tech support in chat. The detection .exe file they provided detected the webcam, manufactured by Chicony. I just ran the detection utility whose link you provide in your post, and nothing manufactured by Chicony shows up!

Now I'm really confused...could the webcam drivers be bundled in the download for the VGA driver? I would figure that it's for the display, but I'm hardly the expert.

    Help!

Thank you...that really helps to clear up the mess and confusion.

I did not use the eManagement recovery program b/c for some reason it did not work, as mentioned as a possibility in their notes. So I used the alternate method, also in their notes, in the absence of the eManagement recovery program, and it worked fine.

Going to the site for which you provide the link, I find three possible drivers to download, 2 Suyin and one Chicony. Are all three to be downloaded or would it be best to stick just with the Chicony driver since that was originally detected?

    Thank you,

Now I cannot find the link you provided in your previous reply, the one that includes the link to the ACER website -- what happened to that reply and the link?? -- I need that info to get back to the downloads to state the names of the programs!

(why did your link disappear from the posts here?)

Or you can try links provided via a google search that deals specifically with Acer's webcam:
