Intel i5 vs. i7 CPU Descriptions/Clock Speeds
I’ve been looking at laptops with at least an i5 chip and now see 2nd and 3rd generation Intel i5 and i7 CPU’s. On the Intel comparison chart I see various clock speeds with both chips but I do see the i7 always has a higher cache. Are all i7 chips faster the i5’s or are some i5’s actually faster than some i7’s?
I’ll see a laptop with an i5 with 2.50 GHz and another model with an i7 with 1.7 GHz yet higher cache. Which is faster?
If some i5’s are faster the some i7 chips, is there a comparison chart showing both listed together? I also plan on at least 8GB RAM.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks, that's a very helpful link. Is thee a substantial advantage with the 3rd generation chips regarding speend and graphics. As mentioned above I will get at least 6GB RAM and maybe add more if it's a pre-made model.
