Yes, and that's exactly the point. If the laptop exhibits the same blank screen problem while running a different operating system, then you'll know that it's NOT Windows, (or any other program running on Windows), that's causing the problem.
BTW, it's real easy to do. Simply boot your system from the Knoppix CD/DVD and that's it, your running the Knoppix Operating System. It has all the normal stuff such as internet browsers, editors, spreadsheet, word processor, file manager, system utilities, etc., etc., etc. Then when you're done fiddling around, remove the Knoppix CD/DVD and reboot from the hard drive (Windows).
