HOW TO SNAP A FRAME FROM A MOVIE
I would like to snap a single frame from a Avi (or other format) movies, what software do I need to get in order to do this job!

If you want to capture a frame in the same resolution as the video, you would probably need video editing software that can work with the format(s) you are using. If you just want a cheap and easy method, pause the video playback and use some screen capture software.

jdc2000.Thank you for your enlightening answer, but this was known to me, before I posted this question, I think you missed the "What"
Now what specifically "if you know!" can be used to do the job,
I did a google search but with mixed results,
this issue is very important for me now.

I still need some clarification on exactly what you are needing.
Do you need the frame to be the same resolution as the original video? I am assuming the answer is yes.
What is your budget for this project?

I have used the native SnipIt in Vista and Win 7 to do what you want.
Tmpgenc is what I used to extract stills from a .avi video.

Used the mpeg2 plugin also.

this is more usefull,
I've a registered sony vegas 9 somewhere on a cd disc I'll install it and learn how to use this software, it has the capacity to do the job I also downloaded several youtube videos on how to,
