Sound
Hi,
my sound has suddenly gone to pot.
Playing files on media player, the voices are full of
a terrible echo.
I went on You Tube and the sound is much the same !
( I started a disc clean up about 30 mins ago , could that
be affecting things ? cleaning up the C Drive )

Not usually.
It sounds, from your description of echo, that if you have a microphone hooked up it's picking up the sounds from your speakers. Try either muting it or turning it down.

No there s no mic
Its as though someone has turned on an echo button
it sounds like they are talking inside a cave or something.
Could the clean up have compressed the files and damaged them ?
second thoughts, no... because the sound is there on you tube too
maybe my sound card has conked out ?

You might try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly:System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

What are you using to do the disk cleanup?
Normally it shouldn't take very long. Perhaps it's hanging which could be causing weird CPU or other problems. You may want to stop the cleanup and see if the problem persists.

I've never seen a windows disk cleanup take more than a minute or three tops. I'd stop it. Use task manager if you need to.

Think Ive figured it out,
I remember when I first logged on and got to the
desktop, there was a window open, some kind of sound
mixer
it had come up by mistake
I had a quick at it and noticed some icons for sound effects
I clicked a couple,
one , I remember now was "bathroom"
nothing happened, I closed the window and carried on
with my e mail.
It looks as though that bathroom sound effect has fixed itself
on all of my sound... from files, from radio, from You tube !!
Is there any way I can shake it off ?
Ive had a look on my desktop for audio aps but havent
found the one I saw earlier, it could be anywhere .

Try looking under the enhancements tab of the speaker properties.
Current PC
Zoostorm
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, (XP Mode virtual pc enabled)
WEI 7.4, 7.6, 7.9, 7.9, 5.9
Intel Core i5-2310, 8GB Ram
Geforce GTX 660 OC
Samsung Syncmaster SA300 23.6" monitor
Folding@home
User Name Sintares

There is no such thing as overkill. 'Open fire' and 'is it dead?' are the only sane options when threatened.

Thanks, but Im on XP and dont seem to have
the options shown above
there is speaker volume settings under "volume "
but thats about all
Looks like in the end Ill have to go to system restore
but you d think there would be some way of adjusting sound settings
to get rid of this unwanted "effect "
Im doing a defrag right now, which looks like it will take
about 24 hours !

I ve finally cracked the problem !
Just found my realtek sound card icon bottom left,
near the clock
Hit it and a window came up
.... the one I saw earlier !
Never realised that the soundcard had a window and features like that
theres a sound mixer in there,( if I ever figured out how to use it, )
equalizer presets, lots of sound effects, play and record buttons ... the whole deal.
That echo has been driving me mad all night, thanks for help !
