Resolved [RESOLVED] Western Digital 3TB External Drive

Up until a few days ago when I plugged in the USB cable to my hub the drive was visible. Since then It will not show up. The motor is running, (I can feel the vibration since it is plugged into an outlet). I did try another external drive and that one came up fine. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do? I only plug this into the hub when I need it and always leave the unit plugged into the AC outlet.

Try bypassing the hub and or try it on another computer if you have one.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I did forget to mention that I did try it on my Netbook and it did not come there either.

The next thing to try is to take the drive out of the enclosure, and hook it up to the computer directly. If the drive is then seen OK, it means that the enclosure electronics have died, which is not that uncommon.

Although I do still have a couple of external drives, I mostly just slot a bare drive into a caddy these days (I always build my PCs with a couple of trayless drive caddies). There is nothing to go wrong, unlike external enclosures, which do seem to be pretty unreliable.

I'm glad you found the answer, even if it wasn't good news.
