Dell Inspiron 9300 heatsink fan issue
Dell inspiron 9300 win xp pro sp3 ( clean install )
all the original drivers are installed.
The laptop never displayed errors or blue screens,
It has a major issue the heatsink fans (2) are running at full speed all the time non stop,
I tested the Rig with Geek squad MRI boot disk, cpu, mem,etc. And it passed all tests.
I then took the laptop completely apart cleaned everything with compressed air, of course the heatsink fans too,
removed the cpu and applied the artic silver paste, then put the whole thing back together. (correctly)
The Rig booted without a problem,
but the heat sink fans are still running at full speed after all this work.
What can be done to fix this festering pest.
if nothing is done, eventually the fas will burn out.

Check the BIOS, the temps controls maybe set for max, should a auto setting which allows the heat to set the fan speed.

There is no setting....
Hi Train
I've checked the BIOS for such setting and there is none.
Dell inspiron 9300 1.73 ghz Pentium M
2 gb of pc 5300 of mem,
the BIOs Version is A05- 2005
The clock speed is 800 mhz
speed fan say the Hd temp is 35 c
and the cpu temp is 86 c
I DLed the BIOS from Dell, but I'm unsure of how to do the flash.
I'm afraid to blow the Rig with a unsusseccsfull bios flash,
this laptop is in cosmetically mint condition and it has a 16.5 bright screen.

Got to much Artic silver on the cpu. You only want 3 thousands of a inch for the thickness. and 86C is to hot.

86C is way to high for a mobile CPU. As Train says, there is definitely something wrong there. It's no wonder that the fans are running full speed

OK I've finished reapplying the artic silver to the CPU heatsink and to the dedicated video card, when I booted up, the fan issue was not resolved, the fan is still running at high speed.
There are a few things I like to mention:
1 When I close the lid the fan is still running for about 30 sec before it goes in standby mode.
2 When I open the lid, before it goes to the desktop, it generate a brief 2 sec massage, it say that the graphic driver could not be loaded and after that thing are normal.
3 Rig's fan are running but air is comming out quite cold.
4 After 20 min or so, when I pass my hand over the keyboard or lift the Rig a bit to sense if it's hot, I find it barely warm.
5 I'm cluthing at straws !!!!

It has a Intel® Pentium® M processor - So I would expect to be hot like that. Now chech the cpu temps.

1) Did it do that before, or is this entirely new behaviour?
2) That's nothing to be concerned about.
3) You can't tell much from that, you need to check the temps properly. I like this:

4) Same as 3.
5) Still better than clutching at nothing at all

Check the voltages that HWMonitor is reporting. I suspect you could have a failed voltage regulator on the motherboard, which would certainly explain those high temps if it is overvolting the CPU.
