    Taskbar window ordering

Never had the occasion arise to ask, but at my new job we need to keep a number of windows open all day, jumping from one to the next. I've found, and have been told by others that some are handy to have close to one another so they open their windows in a certain order every day to make that happen.

We use XPPro/SP3 with Novell. I tried to click-and-move them around in the taskbar but no joy. Short of having a startup routine, is there any way to line up the taskbar windows to my liking?

Why Microsoft has never provided a method to do this is still a mystery. I prefer to have the same order of windows on my taskbar at all times so it is easy to find a particular window. The Group Similar Taskbar items actually makes it harder to find the window you are looking for rather than easier. To do what you want, I think you will need a third-party program.

I rather figured that. You're right as rain about the item grouping - especially with tabbed browsing!

You sound as if you've been down this path already; do you have any recommendation on the programs you linked to?

I use an app called Taskbar Shuffle 2.2 with XP and Vista.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I have not used any of the applications. I simply start the applications I use in a particular order. I have to reboot often enough due to memory leaks, and on my work computer I can't install anything anyway.
