I think usually the higher number is the newest. I wouldn't like to say that is invariably the case though. If you can give links to both mobos that you are looking at we could probably be more precise.

i really like the asus board because they have the sleep mode on them .
i have 2 biostar .brand new.and all they have is hibernate .
now hibernate is the same as turning you pc off .
you have to use the power botton on the case to turn it back on .them you go true the microsoft screen .welcome screen .
    etc.etc.
sleep mode all you do is tap any key or move your mouse and you are back right away were you left .
then the asus board you have the turbo stuff to overclock a bet ..
this is good for me .

now if you go to asus site this is the lattes board .
M4A89TD PRO/USB3.you see that it is still [m4a89].
    so it is a 890 not not a 880.
so i guess that the [4] don't mean it the old model .

    Actually the M5A99X EVO with:

First on AMD 990X: UEFI BIOS & Digital Power Design on AM3+ Platform
    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD...specifications

Is the latest. The UEFI BIOS itis the one that lets you boot to hdds over 2TB in size.

    But I think I would select the M4A89TD PRO/USB3
    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD...A89TD_PROUSB3/

Be sure to read the manuals and the memory documents. Seems there maybe ram brand restrictions.

Did not check for onboard video. Because I do have a couple pci-e video cards just sitting around here.

All modern motherboards will incorporate sleep mode. Windows seems to work better with some than with others, but that's not a brand thing, it seems to be that it just doesn't get along with particular models of board.

Very true why I never try to use it. Plus it is cheaper to shutdown.

it is the perfect way .but the biostar do not sleep at all .
my old intel 2006 was sleeping like a old men .because i know how to program then to sleep .no problem there .
    i set mine at 10 minutes .
so i go and sit it will shot down .
this way i save power .my pc .all my fans .now i am thinging long run here on my fans ..
yes and sleep is really fast to get back on your pc ..no waithing time .
some time i go sit even before finishing typing my post .lol.but when i wake my pc i just keep typing the rest of it .lol .
.i just had big bad luck .i came back to my pc and my wireless mouse did not move any more .
i change the batteries .no go .it is possible that they just go like that .
i did try it on one other pc .still no go .
lucky that i have my old wire one for now .lol .
well it lasted 2 1/2 years for 40.00 not bad .
if your pc is on 24 hrs a day well the led on all your fans will fade away very fast .but all this for no reason and no noise at all when it off
