[RESOLVED] Heatsink fan getting loud
I am useing a amd quad core (995) cpu with the heatsink and fan that came with it.
For 2 years it has been good.
Just lately the fan seems to be on full speed and very loud.
The cpu core is between 60 and 64 degree.
I was think of re-pasting the heatsink onto the cpu and cleaning the fan and fins.
Does anyone think this will fix the problam?
Or should i just get a new heatsink and fan?

Cleaning under the fan maybe all that is needed. Plus cleaning the fan blades using something like q-tips and 90+% alcohol.
If that does not do it, then what you posted should do the trick.

Give any case fans a good clean too, while you're at it. Airflow through the case can make a real difference. It does sound as though you are getting throttling of the CPU due to overheating, so re-applying the thermal paste sounds like a good plan. You may find these helpful:

I stripped it down. Under the fan on the heatsink was heaps of junk.
I re-pasted the thermal paste.
Now the fan is quiet and the core temp has dropped 15 to 18 degrees.
Thanks for the input
