Can someone please provide me a list of ALL FILES IE7 uses??
I am wanting to do an experiment.... (More CSS recognition, etc)
I am on Win98se and i have noticed that when i use an XP computer,i can DL the "EXE" file for IE6 and it works PERFECTLY using the IE7 files and i am wanting to try and transfer some of the IE7 files to my Win98se and see if it will work here (No reason it shouldnt)
I tried 1 file so far: mshtml.dll (IE7 version of it) and when i open any folder on my computer its all messed up so obviously more than MSHTML.DLL is needed.....
Whats interesting is: 1/2 the files i looked @ on the XP for IE7 were version 6.x...
What i would like to know is,WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF FILES NEEDED FOR IE7 TO WORK? (If there is only 7 files i might be able to easily take the 7 from upstairs and bring them here (INSTEAD OF ALL OF THEM))
Would the WINE versions of these files also work?? (They are alot smaller though but i was curious if they would)
Lets get something good going here!!

There are probably hundreds... Internet explorer winds itself throughout the operating system in a very complicated way and I'm not sure many people could come up with the exact number except Microsoft themselves or a very advanced coder familiar with Windows OS 98.
I'm far from that ability but when you click on the ie6 exe instead of the ie 7 exe it's starting a very complicated series of events that few can exchange from operating system to operating system and iex version to iex version.
Think of it as ringing a doorbell just to open the front door but nearly everything behind it is different once the door is opened.

Also, there are registry entries to consider... I'd guess at least a thousand.

Yes your probably right my friend but the fact that IEXPLORE.EXE (v6.x) works fine with all the NEWER IE files tells you it can run on 98se JUST FINE.. (Microsoft is obviously not going to admit that) its just getting the files to your 98se to test it..
Running IE7 is Windoes 98se compatibility mode ALSO WORKS so thats another clue..
I think IE6 is the last nice looking version of IE

Compatibility mode runs older programs in newer operating systems, not the other way around.

Yes but changing a newer program to run in on an older platform shows what that program will do ON THAT PLATFORM....
If you try to do that with the latest firefox,IT DOESNT EVEN OPEN as it wont work on Win98se.... Putting IE7 in Win98se mode DOES WORK.. (Microsoft just tries to block it so no one knows)
Try it my friend!

Yep. And my old cherished chrome Bugatti crank handle doesn't work on my new Bugatti Veyron either.

Microsoft could care less what you do with Windows 98SE. They abandoned it over 5 years ago. (July 11, 2006).

Ouch. My dad told me years ago his father had his arm broken while cranking their 1924 Oakland. (I wish they had kept that car, it's worth a small fortune now!) His next car was a Packard with electric starter.

Dad had a Fordson tractor, it would kick back, so yes I know the DO NOT wrap thumb around the crank handle trick.
