If error still occurs with change/testing with another verified working SATA cable,
You can use Hitachi's diagnostic software, Drive Fitness Test, to check.

I agree, run DFT on it, then you'll get a much better idea if there is a real problem or not. Download UBCD and burn it to CD, it has all the disk testing utilities on it plus many more useful tools besides, then just boot up the computer with the disc in the drive and select the utility that you want - you don't need to be able to boot into Windows.
