    Try the command:
    shutdown -s -t 0 -f
If it works, create a shortcut.

(Note that the "0" is a zero, not an uppercase "o"h).

Note that the Windows 8 Developer Preview is not a beta release. It is pre-beta.
It still has a long way to go to reach the public beta testing stage.

Are we all going to have to buy touch monitors/PC's to use Win 8?

You can still access items using the mouse and keyboard, although you may have to do some research to find keyboard shortcuts to assist with some items. I prefer not to have greasy fingerprints on monitors or display screens.

I loaded Windows 8 and found the shutdown button is accessed via ctrl-alt-del. It is in the lower right corner. Clicking it gives one the usual options - shutdown, restart, ...

FWIW I do not like the metro interface especially when it goes to full screen with no single click way to go back. The only way I've found to get out of a screen such as the "build" app is to use the alt-tab sequence though there may be a way using the windows key. I also had trouble finding drivers for my Dell D620 notebook that work in Win8.

I know that I'll be sticking with Windows 7 for the foreseeable future.
