[RESOLVED] W7 crash at start up when RAID enabled in BIOS

New build:
Asus P8P67 Evo motherboard
Intel I5 3300 Mhz CPU
Windows 7
1 WD Sata drive for Windows
2 Sata Velociraptors for Raid 0
Intel RST Drivers and program installed. Raid 0 set created in Intel RST option prom utility.

When enabled RAID in SATA mode in bios Windows 7 crashes at start up. After the windows balloons go away it blue screens. It happens so fast I can not see anything on that screen. Doesn't crash in AHCI mode.

Did you enable the RAID before installing Windows? If not, then I suspect that is the problem, and an over-the-top reinstall will be necessary.

No, I did the opposite.

Windows really doesn't like it when you try and set RAID after it's installed

May I try and dissuade you from using a RAID 0 setup though, the performance gain is fairly trivial, but the risk to your data is enormous To my mind the risks far outweigh any benefits.

Sorry, I don't share your point of view.
Regarding this problem, it occured with my new mobo, the Raid configuration worked fine with my old Asus P5N. Maybe something with the Intel Rapid Storage technology? Please help!

Is there a down side to leaving it in AHCI mode?

Was the RAID created on your old mobo? If so, you generaly can't just move the drives and expect them to work unless the Raid controller is identical.

Reinstalling Windows is the only way, either a clean install or an over-the-top install. A clean install is best after a motherboard change, IMO.

That includes formatting the raid array, if used.
I would recommend a raid 1 array for redundancy. If one drive is lost the other has everything.

Raid 0 actually doubles the chance for an unrecoverable error because if one drive is lost so is the other.
