[RESOLVED] Mac Book Laptop
I know absolutely nothing about the Mac computers so I'll ask you. I want to give my niece a Maxtor IDE external hard drive that I will put in a USB case for saving of pictures; etc. Will such hardware be recognized by a Mac and usable to her? Her Mac model is unknown to me and she recently purchased it. As always, TIA.

Many thanks Train. I know I formated it long ago and I suspect I did use FAT32 but I am not sure. I 'think' I recall saving 'something' to the drive at that time. I think I had better take it out of 'storage' and see what I saved to it. Hopefully that may shed some light of the subject. I had planned to use the drive on some special occasions when needed to help family with problems--then .

[B]You are fast!![B]!! I just checked the drive and see that I formated it in Nov 09.
That would have been when XP was the latest OS available. I saved a copy of the free Acronis Version 10 to the drive when Acronis offered it for free to Maxtor and WD hard drive owners. "Somehow" I don't think she will need that with a Mac lappy.

Both Windows Vista and Windows 7 were available in November 2009.
The development of Window Vista was completed on November 8, 2006. Over the following three months it was released in stages to computer hardware and software manufacturers, business customers, and retail channels. On January 30, 2007, it was released worldwide.
Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009, and reached general retail availability on October 22, 2009.

Guess I don't do history very well, huh Doc!! Thanks for your correction but perhaps I was thinking about my usage on one of machines--only. And more correctly, her computer running windows XP at the time.
Hope you and all our friends are enjoying a good safe Labor Day.
