Win 7 hangs and Yahoo msngr does not load

I have two issues which seems to be related.

I noticed that win 7 hangs while playing videos through WMP12. Now, I only play wmv files through wmp and it does not hang.... at least for now.

Secondly, yahoo msngr does not load but throws this error message :
Yahoo msngr failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Pls see the application event log or use command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Furthermore, this is what I see in the event log :
Activation context generation failed for "D:\Program Files (x86)\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.5592" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

    Any insight pls ?!
    thanks !

greendesert--For the Yahoo Messenger problem: Have you run sxstrace.exe for a detailed diagnosis?
You may have malware on the PC. Run MalwareBytes. http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Or better, go here and follow the instructions.

OK, I ran all those 4 scanners with no malware detection. Do I post all the logs here ? I think this is more to do with Microsoft Visual C ++ redistrubutable. I have installed all the known both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I did run sxstrace.exe but it does not make any sense to me ; am I doing anything wrong ?

well, the yahoo msngr issue has been solved - I uninstalled and reinstalled and it is working now. This is not something I wanted to do because I wanted to address the core issue.
But, my machine does hang while playing some video files. Do I need to post the event log ? How to go about it ?

All those say that the shutdown was unexpected.
    I would clear them out.

yes - does not say why - the cause which led to the hang up of the machine.
Do I need to somewhere else ?

One thing I noticed that I have bought two brother printers. While installing, they uninstall/install Microsoft C++ 2005 redistributable ? Is the clue to that ?

Well Brother does use Microsoft C++ 2005 and needs it.

    So i install this
    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...ng=en&id=26347
before installing the HL-5370 DW printer.

That way the older version on the cd does not install.

Well, I installed versions 2005 to 2010 with some service packs for both 32 and 64 bit as suggest by some forums. But, I missed the one you pointed and installed that also. It wont install the 6 mb as not supported by my amd cpu but did install the next 64 bit 3 mb file.

I will keep my finger crossed and see what happens next..... till then..

Well, the Microsoft C++ 2005 update did not help.
But, I found that there was pixiepack codec installed by tunebite (which should not), I uninstalled it and reregistered all necessary dll files with wmp and it seems to be playing fine now. In fact, I am looping one video in wmp since an hour.
    thanks !
