    Installtion issues XP

Hi, I was having an issue installing .NET as it seemed to encounter problems during installation. Then I realized later that other program installs were having the same encountering problem issues. I checked the Windows installer v4.5 in add/remove programs and it is not listed which seems to me it as well had a problem installing. It is, however listed in the services.msi list. I need to know the best way to look at this. I would like to remove Installer v4.5 and go back to 3.1 to see if that is the problem. Win XP sp3 is the OS

So far as I'm aware, the only way you can uninstall it is to use System Restore to roll back to a point before installer 4.5 was installed. I doubt that it is the problem though, it would be all over the internet if there were issues with it.

What problems are you encountering during program installs?
    Nick.

OK let's forget the .NET thing for a second, I tried to install RegscrubXP to clean out the registry..it failed or encountered a problem and did not install. While it was trying to install that, the .NET install program came out of no where and tried to install at the same time by itself. Is it an installer issue? I'm confused!

oops my bad. Regscrubxp takes .NET Framework 3.0 to install and during installation if not installed, it will try to so at that time as well. So if I let both install at the same time neither program finishes successfully or if I cancel the .NET, regscrubxp says it encountered a problem sorry blah blah.

Note that we do not generally recommend registry cleaners. They often remove entries that cause things to break.

Click Start > Run, type in:
    cmd
    and press [Enter].

    At the CMD prompt, type:
    sfc /scannow
    and press [Enter].

(Note that you may be prompted you for your XP CD). When it's done, reboot and test.

If that fails, try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when the computer was functioning correctly:

    --

If that fails, try an XP repair:
    1. Boot the computer from your Windows XP CD.

    2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen press [Enter] to start the Windows Setup.

Note: Do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console).

    3. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.

    4. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and then press [R] to start the repair. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot.

    5. Do not press any key to boot from CD if and when such a message appears. Setup will then continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.
