[RESOLVED] Lose Menu's
I have this problem that I have every now and then. I lose both the right and left click menu's. All I can see is a line (Outline) of where the menu should be. My fix has been to go to Windows Color and Appearance and change and change back so that I can Apply. That will fix it for a time. Vista Home Premium SP2 32 bit
Any ideas what my problem and real fix is?
Thanks
Rod

I haven't got a definite answer but it sounds like it maybe something to do with the Vista system fonts. I haven't got a Vista box running at the moment but I think the font should be Segoe UI. If the font is being changed,( or it's size), by some other program then that may account for the loss of text.

Did you try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly?

Weird, never seen that. It usually simply replaces any flaky files and exits.
I'd be tempted to run a diagnostic against the hard drive first, then run CHKDSK. While you're at it, might as well test the RAM too. (If the hardware is flaky, the software will never work right).
If that all checks out OK, backup your data and reinstall Vista. (Personally, I'd install Windows 7 instead. )

RAM Diags:
Notes:
- Download either one to your hard drive then (extract)/execute it to create a bootable diskette or ISO CD-ROM image.
- Let the test run for a while, at least half an hour or so. If you get ANY errors, the RAM needs probably needs to be replaced.
Hard Drive Diags:
Hard drive diagnostic utilities are used primarily for determining the physical condition of your hard drive, (drive integrity and read/write verification). If you are having computer problems which you suspect are hard drive related, you can test your drive with the following:
Note: In most instances you download the file to your hard drive then (extract)/execute it to create a bootable diskette or ISO CD-ROM image.
CHKDSK
If it passes the HD Diags, run CHKDSK next (to ensure that the Windows file system is okay):- Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
- At the command prompt, type:
chkdsk.exe /r /x c: and then press [Enter].
