    RAID 0 questions

I know some of you are not for RAID 0. I have been running RAID 0 for a few years now and have some questions if you could help me out.

I have two of the following SSD:

    • During installation of Windows 7 64bit, there were no extra driver that was required for ICH10r. I setup in the BIOS to do ICH10R and then did a Control-I to set the RAID 0. After that, I just installed Windows 7. When Windows was done installing, I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Am I missing a step here?
    • What can I use to measure the Read Write speed of my SSD? HDTach will not work for Windows 7 64bit. The alternative is CrystalMark but not sure how to use it properly against RAID 0.
    • Does partitioning a RAID 0 hurt the performance? I read several articles that said partitioning to C and D drives will effect the performance.
    • Intel Rapid Storage Technology recommends a 16 kb for SSD. Is this correct base from the attached picture?

I am able to run HD Tach thanks to Bistro in this thread:

Does the attached picture sound about right base from my SSD specs? How can I measure the write speed?

No way that no one on this board knows the answers to the above questions!

Here is a good article on SSDs, with some recommendations for benchmarking tools:

Nick, your article was good that it was able to answer 2 out of the 4 questions that I have. It is a bit conflicting because it recommends 128kb for the RAID0 stripe while I read some other literature that recommends smaller. I think I am going to stick with the recommendation in your article because that is what I have right now. The article also provide some of the benchmark tools and usage. Thanks

Do you have an answer for bullet 1 and bullet 3?

I can't help with the first one, I haven't used any form of RAID myself for several years now, and I'm a bit out of touch about it.

On point 3, I cannot imagine any scenario where partitioning would hurt performance. If you could post the links to those articles I would like to have a read of them, to see what their reasoning is.
    Nick.

I can see where transferring files from C: to D: would be slower because of the interrupts.
Since they are on the same drive.

This is not the article that I read but a post that debated on the subject of partitioning. It vere in the same direction as what Train shared.

I will look for the actual article later.

    Thanks Nick
