    Resolved [RESOLVED] Cannot update flash player

    I do not know if this is unique to Win7 but I have posted this problem here. I am using IE9 on this 64 bit OS but I have not been able to download the latest flash player update. Any help for me. I even turned off my Antivirus software. As always, TA.

    If that doesn't help, try uninstalling the Adobe Download Manager from Programs and Features, and then try updating again. Adobe updates are a royal PITA

    Then install Flash from the download here http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Uncheck the offer to install the Google Toolbar at the same time.

    Many thanks to each of you for your time and input answering my thread.
    I can now say that I have the latest Flash install. I removed that which I had already installed and then downloaded and installed it again. This time I chose to include "Square"(32 bit on 64 bit) as part of my download and the install went through nicely. Now I can "see".
    PS I have never has such trouble with Flash--never.

    NOW I am back to square 1 because now flash is not working. I had spent maybe a couple of hours on flash, thought I finally had it and now I see that I don't have it any more. I just checked the Control Panel and I see 64bit in the flash description. I like being able to use flash but this is not fun. I have never had so much trouble with any app.
    Don't know what my removing the check mark for Google did to the download, if anything, but I don't care to have another toolbar. Maybe that is a prerequisite to get flash installed.

    buf--Removing the check to install Google did nothing that will harm you.
    But why would you install Square, which is beta and most useful for those using the 64bit version of IE9? (Do not confuse Windows with IE.)
    Go through the uninstall routine again and this time install the normal version of Flash 10.2 from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    This means you should also use the 32 bit version of IE9. That is what most people are doing even when the version of Win7 is 64bit.

    You should really be using IE in 32-bit mode. Flash, Silverlight and other plugins are only beta on 64-bit at best.

    Control Panel shows I have: Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX and Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin. What is missing that is keeping me from using flash on a flash link? This the Compaq PC.

    Thanks for not giving up on me Jim; not yet at least. The answer to your question: You have version 10,2,159,1 installed. In the past, flash has never given me such trouble. I can't wonder if it is IE or Adobe.

    Is this a new issue? In your initial post you said you cannot install Flash. It seems you now have the latest version.
    What is not happening? Can you give us an example of a flash link that does not work?

    Jim, and others, just today I have begun using FF 4 and flash opens easily with the downloads I have installed as reported here. I can see 'whatever' is being offered me to view. For now, I am leaving IE and cool it for awhile. Won't be easy because I have been an IE user for years. I really appreciate your help and just wish we could have gotten the "job" done. Someone suggested that I run the "IE reset tool" but I didn't do it because I am unsure what could happen.

    Yes, I had read that yesterday and then decided not to run the tool. Gotta confess that I have been thinking of using FF to see what it is like. Guess my time has arrived.
