Microsoft Office 2007 Word Icons Not In Bold Anymore
I use Microsoft Office 2007 Word to create documents. My Word icons are no longer in bold once I create a new word document. They appear really light almost like a watermark. They do open up my saved word documents with no problem. How can I get these Word icons back in bold print?

What version of Windows? Are ONLY the Word icons affected? What about Excel icons or other icons? Post a screen capture please.

My Word 2007 doesn't show in bold and can't say that it ever did.
When you click on the Word menu button in the upper lefy and then go to Word Options have you looked through the humdreds of options... I did a quick look over and didn't see an option to change anything like you described.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Windows XP Professional , It's only the Word icons that have changed. They used to be the same color as every other desktop icon. They now look a lot lighter. Almost like a watermark would look. This icon change happened after the removal of a rootkit with Combofix. Everything seems to work fine as far as opening and using the documents. I would just like to get the Word icons back in bold.

Essential info to have for providing assistance.
I would recommend a repair install of XP. You may also need to repair or reinstall Office as well. Rootkits are nasty. They can mess up lots of things, and their removal can mess up even more things.

One additional thought - what happens if you change the icon for one of the Word documents? Try changing one to an icon used for something else that still looks OK. If that works, it may only be the base Word icon that is changed or corrupted.

I did a repair of Office but that didn't fix it. I am not going to do a repair on Windows XP. Everything is working fine except for the Word icons. I will keep fiddling around with it to see if I can get it figured out.

I think I have figured out what the problem is here. Somehow my Microsoft Word documents have become hidden. That's why the icons are lighter than a normal icon.
I just need to figure out where I need to go to change all the word documents from hidden back to normal.
Right click onto a word document that is saved on your desktop and then select Properties. If you check hidden then the icon on the desktop becomes faded. I just need to find how I can change them all back at the same time.

You do need to have Show Hidden Files and Folders checked under folder options before you can see the word icons even though they are faded.
