Word spellcheck settings
Here's the deal. Someone is having issues with Word documents where spellchecking the document will come up with some errors, but others are ignored. I know how to change that setting for a single document, but what I want to know is if there is a way to change that setting for every document that is opened in her Word program. Right now if she opens a document she selects all, clicks Review, clicks Set Language, and completely clears the checkbox labeled "Do not check spelling or grammar." Is there a way to make this the default for all documents including ones already created?

In Word 2007 or Word 2010, click the Office button in the top left corner, go to Options, then go to Proofing in the left-hand pane. Uncheck "Check spelling as you type".
If it is an earlier version the setting is in Options somewhere, but I no longer remember exactly where.
Nick.

Hmmm... but that seems like it would keep spellchecking from checking spelling while typing. I'm not sure how this would reset things on all documents, past and present, so that when she enters a document and runs the spellchecker the entire document will definitely be checked. Can you explain for me?

Yes, it would.
Perhaps we need some clarification on exactly what you want and don't want Word's spell check to do or not do for this user. Normally, whenever you are typing new text into a document, it is checked for spelling as you type. Also, if you load an old document, it is checked for spelling after it is loaded. If some spelling errors are missed, then it is possible that someone has added incorrect entries to whatever dictionary file is in use.

Sorry for the delay. It's really weird what's going on, but apparently it's possible to mark a word, a sentence, a paragraph, etc. to be skipped when spellcheck is run on the document or when the document is opened up. What I'd like to do is set her Word program so that every document she opens has the standard, basic default spellcheck settings where everything is checked in the entire document upon it being opened and also as things are being typed. Does that make sense?

Rename normal.dot / .dotx and make restore default settings?

I might just give that a try. I'll let you know.
