CD/DVD content labels
Is there a software package (especially freeware) that is able to print a disc label or case label directly from the directory of the disc itself? I MUST be making this too hard...
I've got lots of utilities that will print labels, and a couple of utilities that will even "look up" the contents of discs, but I can't seem to find something that will both read the disc contents, then print from it.

Paper labels on discs are bad. The glue will eventually eat into the disc causing your discs to become unreadable. Now, if you're thinking Lightscribe or printer enabled written disks, that's a different story. But I think you're going to have to do it the old fashioned way, copy and paste your contents to the software.

Always good to hear from you Photolady... I haven't been around much lately.
I hear you, but that is JUST RIDICULOUS. I'm actually more interested in the case label than the disc label itself, for reasons you mention. But having to retype the track list, album title, etc., when there are so many utilities that can SHOW that information is just freakin STUPID. Even if you had to "save" the text list to a file, then import it... ANYTHING but having to retype information on a personal computer (for CRYING OUT LOUD!).
I really (previously) thought NERO would do this, but I can't find a way. I can print labels, and I can see disc contents, but I can't PRINT disc contents. I'm really just astounded that it would be this difficult. Of course, I'm looking for Freeware, but I need to do enough of this that I'd gladly pay a reasonable price for the solution...
I don't WANT to write this utility, but I'm sorely tempted to.

It's not freeware but it's not that costly either and it says it can add the lists without you having to type them in all the time:

Thanks, I'll look into it. BTW, just bought a refurbed Nikon D90. Have TONS of Nikon film stuff (still!), so have plenty of lenses to play with, but this is my first DSLR. Really looking forward to spring and the greening up. Not much to shoot in my neck of the woods right now...

Nikon...ewww!! LOL
I'm going to upgrade my Pentax to another Pentax near Christmas time, unless I get more money between then and now. I've been a Pentaxian since 1995.

Oh, I'm WELL familiar with Pentax. I have a Heiland Honeywell Pentax H2 that I'm guessing probably dates from the late 50's or early 60's. No meter, no frills, perfect working condition, super-sharp lenses, and still take amazing photos. I just can't keep throwing money at film.
Girl, I've got enough old film stuff to fill a dumpster, would LOVE to sell it, but apparently it has a ZERO value in the current market. 35mm, 120, 4x5, 8x10, you name it, with complementary darkroom gear! Maybe someday a museum will buy the entire collection! ;-)

Well, on my forum for Pentax users, there are still many film users and some still doing home darkroom work.
I'll send you a PM about this too.
