No Windows 7 SP1 backup files
I installed SP1 and it went very smooth and it installed successfully and all is running OK. I did a disk cleanup just to see how big the backup files were for the service pack and it said O bytes. I thought it saved them. I haven't deleted any files so I wonder what happened to them.

When you go to Disk Cleanup, make sure you click the "System Files" button, and then you should see the backup files in their real size.

Where are the SP1 backup files stored on your computer? Since I show 0 bytes when doing disk clean up and it shows SP1 installed, I'd like to see if they are really there.

Don't know now, I cleaned mine up on my main rig, and my laptop got a clean install with SP1 integrated. Hopefully someone else can find where they live.

Squid.. how did you install sp1? if it was part of an integrated SP1/Win7 CD there will not be any leftover files on the drive as SS alludes to above.
I have not yet found where the files should be stored on the drive though.

How to uninstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w.../uninstall-sp1
If you've used Disk Cleanup since installing SP1, the backup files needed to uninstall the service pack might have been deleted from your computer. To remove the service pack, you'll need to reinstall Windows 7.

I don't want to uninstall SP1, I want to remove the backup files. According to disk clean up there are none and I haven't ran clean up since installing SP1. I was wondering why I didn't have any backup files to remove.

I've searched my drive for them and have been unable to locate where they are stored. My disk cleanup utility says that clearing SP1 backup files will save 530 Megs of space so I searched for folders between 450 and 600 Megs and found nothing that could correspond to SP1 backup.
I'm wondering if they're distributed among a number of folders. If so that would make manually deleting them problematic. I'm not even sure a manual deletion would be a good idea... may cause errors if there are corresponding registry entries that would suddenly not be able to find them.

When I installed SP1 it was successful so I wanted to see how much space the backup files took. I ran Disk Clean Up 4 times as Administrator and it always came up 0. I'm not worried about space cause I have lots of space it just peaked my curiosity that it showed no backup files. If it was successful there must be files. I've seen this same question on some other forums but no answers.

From this vantage point, all we can do is guess.
The installation routine may have deleted them.
Some other cleanup utility, (such as CCleaner), may have removed them.
