[RESOLVED] Saving notes in IE8
There are times I want to save a note or whatever to my desktop, I do it but when I look for it, the item is not there. I have been having to search for it and will find it elsewhere. Many other items are there also. Please tell me what may be happening. Using IE8. As always, TIA.

Please detail the process you use to "save a note", and let us know where the note was eventually found.

I almost did not post my question because this is so hard to describe. Thanks for your post JDC but I use Metapad, instead of Notepad, but I type or c/p what I want and save it in Metapad and then save it to my Desktop so that I can later read it. After having gone through the motions of saving the "note" to my desktop I go to my desktop and it is not there. This started several days ago and so I now have to do a windows search and it is shown in the the folder the name of which I do not know unless it is "search results". Vague isn't it.
BTW, I use the Classic Start Menu hence the 'search' word I used.

Try the process again, then do a Search. Right-click on the file when it is found and select Properties. That should show you where the files is actually located. Or, you can expand the header column in the Search window to see the full path. Post that here.

As you are using Windows 7, try the built-in Stickynotes. Just type "Stick" into the Start search box. I think you will find it is perfect for what you want.

C:\Users\buf\Desktop This is where the "Search" results show where the file is located. I DO NOT see it on my desktop!!!
Well, the file is NOW on my desktop and I haven't any doubt that it was NOT there before I started my thread. Why am I so certain--because I had a designated empty place on my desktop for the file to be found and it was not there. I searched every item on my desktop looking for the file and it simply was not there BEFORE I asked for help. I am as confused as you may be when you read this post.
I still have to wonder what that Search folder is when I use Search on my start menu. I just don't know why items I sometime try to save to my desktop are found there and NOT on the desktop. Computers!!!!!
AH HA. I use the app Fences for my desktop and all of my icons/shortcuts are placed within certain fences on the desktop as determined by the app. Might that have some bearing on what is happening?

Thanks Nick for the suggestion of using Sticky Notes. I already use these for shorter-term reminders like appointments; etc.

The location is correct for the desktop in Win7. Chances are it WAS on the desktop, but off screen somewhere. App Fences probably had something to do with that. This is why supplying ALL of the details that might be relevant to an issue is important.

Thanks JDC. I am not gonna worry too much about it now that I can easily find any "file" I attempt to save to the desktop when I don't find it there. Only mentioned Fences app as a last resort and only when I thought about it.
Fences does not usually cause me any troubles; not too sure it has this time. I may experiment with it sometime. I do like it's features.
