[RESOLVED] Skype crashes upon restart
I've been trying to install the latest version of Skype and it installs OK but when I do a restart it stops working. This is from the Administrative event log. I ran sfc /scannow and all is OK. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

That is almost certainly a red herring, ntdll errors usually are. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype?

I've tried installing the version 5 numerous times with same results. I can install version 4.2.0.169 and it installs OK and restarts OK. The only thing I don't like about the version 4 is that when you close, it will minimize to the system try on the left side where quick launch is. There is a setting to uncheck to stop this but it doesn't work.

I've just noticed you are using a newer version than me - I have v 5.0.0.156 installed on Win7 x64, and there have been no problems at all with it. It might be worth seeing if you can download that version. There could be a bug with the very latest one.

Well I installed that version and as soon as I tried to sign in it stopped working with the same event read out, ntdll.dll. Seems like the only version that will install is 4.2.0.169.

Hmmmmmmm. That's a bit of a puzzling one As it happens, I've installed Skype 5.x on 4 different Windows 7 x64 computers, and one Ubuntu one, in the last few weeks, and it's been fine on all of them. So it would appear to be an oddity with your PC
Try running the System File Checker. Go to Start and type "cmd" without the quotes, then right-click cmd.exe and choose "Run as Administrator". Once at the Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. You may need your Windows 7 disc, though most of the time you don't.

I've already done a system file check and all is OK. I really would like to have this skype up and running so I've got a few other quirks so I think I'll do a reformat. I'm retired so got lots of time, besides I don't mind doing it.

You're like me then - I don't mess about either, if I have a problem I can't be bothered to spend ages solving then I quite often do a reformat and reinstall too
I'm just in the middle of one today, as it happens, seeing as how my new laptop and my new firewall seem to hate each other

Thank You for your responses. I'm about half done, just all the updates to do and install a few items. I'm going to keep it a little slimmer this time.

After I got done reformatting Skype installed OK. I must of had some corruption in there.
