    Compaq Presario 6000; reformat issues

So my neighbors Compaq Presario 6000 had tons of issues and they asked me to reformat it.

so i put in the windows xp disk, reformatted the HDD and reinstalled XP.

for some reason i cant get any of the networking functionality to work. when i open up network connections and try to make a new connection i go all the way thru the 'prompts' and then it doesnt create any networking icons.

so i grab my wireless usb, download the software and drivers install that, but every time it goes thru the 'found new device' it asks for the drivers and then it says it cannot find the drivers.

is there a workaround for this, im pretty sure if i can get it to connect either wireless or wired that i will be able to get to the compaq site and then get the drivers for this hardware configuration.

is there a vanilla lan driver somewhere out there that might work?
is there something else you would do to get beyond this step?

    thanks a bunch!

when i went to the compaq site i couldnt find the exact computer (i have that info at home).

You'll need the exact model number so you can get the drivers from HP/Compaq.

Look around the bottom of the Compaq to locate a sticker with complete model,
    an/or
Enter the BIOS/CMOS menu and complete model should also be displayed.
    Cheers.

i might try and buy a new network card and install it. im pretty sure once i get it online ill have significantly less issues.

this is the first reformat that has caused me this many issues.

It says Intel. You could at least try one of the driver sets from Intel's site. Look under Network Connectivity - Desktop Adapters - Pro 100 (there are a few series that use the same driver)

There are no network drivers listed there, which is why I said to go directly to Intel.

That's odd. You are quite correct. Extensive exploring of the model doesn't show any Network Drivers/support. Apologies.

This is the first time (on HP/Compaq machines) that I've seen no Network drivers available.
