New Hard Drive Question
Hello
I'm hoping you can help me. I have an eMachine ET1331G-03w that is about 8 months old. Last week, when booting up from being turned off several days, the hard drive began a loud clicking and would not boot up completely. So, after doing some reading, I decided to replace the hard drive. I ordered a new one that is Identical to the one that came installed. "Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 3Gb/s 750 GB 32 MB cache ST3750528AS.
My question is this. When I install this new hard drive, I plan on unplugging the clicking one and leaving it where it is and installing new hard drive directly under it. To get the same operating system and drivers onto the new one, can I run the Disks I made when I first bought the computer? Since the hard drive is identical size and etc, I was hoping I could. The disks I have are a 3 DVD set I burned of Factory Defaults, then I have another one I burned at the same time of System Restore, Windows 7 64 bit. This computer did not ship with a Windows 7 disk.
I have done alot of work with computers but this is my first hard drive installation. So, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I just need to know how to load Windows onto the new hard drive and get the system running once again. I am not worried at this point about things on the dead drive.
My system is
eMachine ET1331G-03w
AMD Athlon 11x2 235e Dual Core Processor
6GB DDR2 memory
Windows 7 home edition 64 bit was installed on dead drive and I did make all backup disks.
Thanks

Yes.
The use of the recovery 3 disc set should set the computer back to the way it was.
Complete instructions of the recovery procedure by recovery discs is listed on pages 48 and 49 of your user guide.
If you have misplaced your user guide,
You can download the manual by clicking on the link below,

Shinma,
Thanks so much for your reply. Thanks also for the link. I did not get any type of user guide when I bought this computer, so I'm glad to have the link!
Thanks Again!

Even though that eMachine is only 8 months old, if it were mine, I would check out the label on the power supply while you have the case open. If that label indicates that eMachines are still using Bestec power supplies, I would plan on replacing it ASAP. Bestec power supplies are notorious for failing and taking out the motherboard and possibly other components when the go. Your power supply probably did not cause your present hard drive troubles, but it could fail at any time. My experience with Bestec power supplies has been that after 18-24 months you are risking your computer if you have not replaced it.

You're welcome AttaGirl42.
I was not aware that eMachine did not provide user guide for their systems.
Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers.

The system should still be under warranty. See if they will send you a replacement hard drive.

Even if the system wasn't under warranty, the drive should still be under warranty.

It is possible that you will need to re-activate Windows after you have it installed on the new drive. A quick phone call to MS to explain that you had to replace the drive will be all that's needed.
I agree about getting the faulty drive replaced, you can use it to store your data on
Nick.
