textbridge and paperport
I got both applications when I purchased my scanner
recently however... a trojan attack seems to have disabled
both of them ( maybe by gobbling up the dll files ? )
things are quiet now on the trojan side, I think Ive routed them out !
However, I get the disc and try to reinstall both applications and find they wont install
The software comes up on the disc... I go inside the folder
hit the installer etc nothing happens
Anyway, leaving that aside, is there any alternative to textbridge ? I ve scanned a few newspaper articles and would like to get them into computor text....
or is textbridge the only game in town ?
thanks for help or comments !

Uninstall the scan completely, be sure to clean up left behind folders and such, reboot and reinstall. Should fix things.

easier said than done
I tried to uninstall paper port and a window came up...
dll not present cant uninstall... see vendor etc
I went to textbridge... tried to unistall, the whole window froze
its sitting there on my desktop now, I cant move it even with task manager !
looks like that trojan attack I had a week or two ago did more damage than I thought !
paperport isnt that important, I can use the built in windows scanner software
if I want to scan anything.... but textbridge was useful to get workable text from
a scan of a newspaper etc

You could try Revo Uninstaller, or manually removing the files and registry entries for the applications.

zzstevo--Were those perhaps trial versions of Paperport and Textbridge which have now expired?
Omnipage is well regarded, but very expensive. (Same seller as Paperport)
Irfanview claims to have a plug-in (both free) for Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
OCR_KADMOS.DLL - This PlugIn adds OCR features to IrfanView.
PlugIn URL: http://www.irfanview.info/plugins/kadmos/
MS Office has an OCR capability.

No, the textbridge and paperport were sent on disc
with my scanner from qvc.
Try as I might I can't reinstall either of them
However I managed to download the free " simple O CR "
from here...
( trouble is I cant find it on my desktop ... I ll keep the installer and reinstal it when I need it )
but maybe a better option is to do it on line
go here

a very useful site and that does the trick !

Check online, as the maker of the scanner should have the drivers under support.

i REMEMBER TRYING to contact the maker a few months ago,
I think the orig firm had been taken over.
As per usual these big firms are hard to contact.
I got in e mail contact with ... a uk agent ? for the firm
I said I think I deserved some support on this or maybe
a free download of the latest textbridge software....
however he hummed and harred.... and I got nowhere.
The scanner is probably 3 years old now but I can prove
purchase and I think I deserve better treatment than that
I dont think they give a stuff .
