[RESOLVED] Windows Live Mail 2011
I'm presently using Outlook 2007 and would like to switch to Live Mail. My question is how do I get my mail from Outlook 2007 into Live Mail 2011? I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

All I could do was export my outlook to a file on the desktop. That's the only thing I good do was export to a file. Then I opened Windows live mail and tried to import the file but it wouldn't work, so I did it the long way, everything I wanted to save I e-mailed it to myself. Took awhile but it got the job done.

A few options are available but dependent upon your operating system
XP:
Use Outlook Express to import Outlook messages, then use WLM to import from Outlook Express
Vista:
Use Windows Mail to import Outlook messages, then use WLM to import from Outlook Express
Windows 7: see below for use of the Hotmail Outlook Connector
All operating systems(XP, Vista, Windows 7)
1. If not having one, open IE and sign up for a Hotmail.com or Live.com email address/account at https://signup.live.com
- click on the option 'Or get a Windows Live e-mail address'
2. Logon at mail.live.com to ensure the account, inbox and folder structure are setuip.
3. Create any additional folders in the web UI for later message management
- Hotmail web ui does not support nested folders at this time(it will in the future)
4. Sign out of the Hotmail account
5. Download and save the installer for the Outlook Hotmail Connector (OLHC)
Note: If Outlook 2010 both 32 bit and 64 bit versions are available(ie. if using Office 64 bit choose the latter) - note Office 64bit, not Windows
32 bit
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en
64 bit
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displayLang=en
6. Close Outlook and IE
7. Install the OLHC, restart your machine
8. Open Outlook, add the Hotmail account to the OLHC
9. Close and Open Outlook(necessary to update the Outlook pst file and setup the account in the OHLC)
10. Copy(not move) messages from the Outlook folders to the Hotmail account folders
11. Double check that all necessary messages have been copied to the Hotmail account folder
12. Perform a send and receive on the Hotmail account to upload messages to the Hotmail server
- do not interrupt the process. depending upon the quantity it may take some time
13. Once complete open IE and logon at mail.live.com and inspect/review the folders/messages
- if all are not present the upload process was aborted prematurely or still in process
14. Close both IE and Outlook
15. Setup the Hotmail account in WLM using the default settings(**do not** setup manually as a Pop3 account). Setup the email account you used in Outlook in WLM.
16. Perform a Send and Receive in WLM(this will download all messages from the Hotmail web UI into WLM and allow WLM to save all locally and build it's message store and update its message index)
17. Copy/Move messages to user created folders in your email account or user created folders in WLM's storage folders (your objective was to get your OL messages into WLM, not into a Hotmail account in WLM)
18. Once complete, the Hotmail account can be removed from Outlook and the OLHC uninstalled
- note: ***Do NOT*** uninstall the OLHC unless the Hotmail account has been removed in Outlook
19. If you do not need the Hotmail account in WLM, it can be removed.
20. If you do not need the Hotmail messages stored on the Hotmail server, logon at mail.live.com and delete them
Note: Only do step 18-20 after you are certain your messages reside outside of the Hotmail account in WLM in either your primary email account or user created folders in WLM's Storage folders.
