Yup, that's the plan today ... I have a few old cases that I can use to mount the mobo, more or less like a testbed kind of thing and see what I come up with at this point.
I'll keep ya posted! And will hope I have good news to report at some point, fingers crossed.

And so ... didn't work. Put it on the test bench, same thing...

Noticed that the heatsink was pretty tight on some goodies on the motherboard... possible CPU issue maybe, ordered one, nope. Frak this bu11****.
70 for a hard drive, 92 for a power supply, 52 for a motherboard and 188 for a processor and it still does the same thing. Power comes on, fans come on, lights and no action, no beeps.
So now I'm done ... stick a fork in me.

Well this really is a puzzler

I suppose the next question to ask is what haven't you replaced?

I'm putting the old mobo and proc and bare minimum of parts into another case and will know in about 5 if that does any good.
And yes, quite the puzzler... the one that really makes no sense is that it was running fine with the new mobo. Had restarted and shutdown and played around and all was good. Then after the last shutdown and start attempt it was toast. Not like I did anything to it while it was shutdown overnight. Gremlins I suppose... I'll post back in a few.

So ... readers digest version so turn on the pretty listening ears.
Took the P5B-E, the bend socket pin one yes, that's another story... and put it in a new case... using old CPU, stock heatsink, old hard drive a stick of Patriot RAM and the new Corsair PS.

Pushed the button and fans start and holy crap! It beeped ... and bios wanted some attention, loaded defaults and into Win 7 it went. SIW is still giving odd 12v rail readings while speenfan runs solid 12.2 for that reading. Possible issue with SIW....
Shutdown at a point and put in the other stick of RAM and gave me the previous symptom, fans and such but no beeps. Pulled the stick and it runs... but not believing that stick is bad yet... as I've tried the single stick with both mobo's and it never made a difference before. So who the frak knows... more troubleshooting on that needed.

So ... an issue with the old case. That's hard to believe really as it's a case that's been in use for quite some time and nothing changed with it prior to issues... RAM problem, maybe, we'll see but I've swapped it with no change previously... anyway, I'll continue on and see how it goes and keep you posted.

The SIW readings are odd ... mostly reads 10.2 for 12v rail ... min is 9.26 and max is 14.05 .... need more software to check that so will check asus probe and a few other and see what's up with that.

I never really trust voltage readings from any of those monitoring apps. Their accuracy depends too much on how much they like the particular sensors on the mobo. I always like to check a new PSU with a voltmeter, then after that I don't care what bizarre software values I get. Such as HWMonitor which reports my 12 volt rail as 0.77 volts

Yeah, I'd have to agree there ... that's why I generally use a few different programs to check things and for the most part if the machine is acting right it's okay.
And so ... played a bit more and does look like one stick of RAM might be bad... no beeps codes... it just does the nothingness if I put that stick in. Which is odd because that's the first thing I checked and checked multiple times throughout this whole ordeal and it never made a difference trying just one stick and swapping them out and such. But now it does all of a sudden so not sure I can call that as the original issue. And the fact that a stick of RAM that's bad will usually scream about it with beeps codes...

Ultimately though I've got the machine running and a bunch of spare parts ... so. Back to looking for a new house now... my house just sold so now need new digs, plenty of insanity going on around here now.

You sold your house to buy the replacement parts?

I wouldn't have had this pegged for a RAM issue at all. It just goes to show how PCs can always surprise you, I suppose.

You could use your spare bits to build Home Theatre PC for when you get your new place - I built one a few months back and it's been wonderfully useful, as well as being a lot cheaper than buying separates

yup, the price of parts and pieces is just sky high these days!
And actually I already have an HTPC ... but I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the spare parts once I get my PC all put back together.

Still not sure it's a memory issue but we'll see as I move forward in the process here.
