[RESOLVED] Windows 7 - Security Software Recommendations !
Hi All,
You could say I've been dragged kicking and screaming from my WinXP comfort zone to Windows 7 having managed to skip the intermediate offerings in-between.
Anyway I've finally arrived but unfortunately some of the security software that I've used and treasured over the years, the companies have either folded or they haven't produced a version for Win7.
Looking to see what suggestions anyone has for 2 bits of
software that appears defunct.
One is ProcessGuard which was produced by DiamondCS software...an Australian company as I recall and Snoopfree which just ticked away in the background working as an anti-keylogger.
Interested in anyone who's using Win7 and would recommend software which works along the lines of either of the 2 bits of software above.
Thanks for your help

I'd help if you went ahead and mentioned what the two softwares do so people like me don't have to go searching
Microsoft Security Essentials is very popular.
Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Hi Steve,
Details as follows: Snoopfree works by preventing keystroke invasive software from taking control of one's keyboard and monitoring keystrokes.
Processguard ... works against software installing itself when unwarranted or unintended...The features I like is that it requests approval of applications before running or you can tell it to run automatically as with firewall rules.
Another thing which I like is that when your pc starts up it can be set to individually allow programs to run...A very useful feature ... It hardly takes up any memory and just sits in the background.
At the time the only software I noted that done anything
similar was a certain facet of NOD32 but that came with there full suite and I only really wanted that specific feature.
I could certainly just buy NOD32 but as I've not really
checked what's blazing a trail for 2010 I thought I'd see
what people are praising
Thanks for any further insights forthcoming.

I run Avast anitvirus and Malwarebytes with no problems at all. Neither require excessive system resources.
My ultimate protection, however, is making full system/image backups at least once a week in case something does find its way through my first lines of defense. Free versions Macrium and Paragon work well and I"ve used them but I currently use Acronis True Image.

Thanks Fink ... Once I've stabilised the system how I like on Win7 I'll certainly make a copy of the system as I did with my xp machine .... Have a copy of Acronis 9 which works well.

Does 9 work with Win 7?
Might want to check that bit out.

If you have Home Premium or above, you don't need to use 3rd party imaging software. You will find a built-in imaging utility in Control Panel>Backup.

I wouldn't try TI ver9 with win7. So far the most recent version that works properly is 2010.
I tried ver 11 when I first installed Win7 last year and hosed my OS .. had to start over.
