    Problem connecting to server

    Hi
I have several pc's where I work, all using XP. The user accounts are local accounts. The problem I'm having, is when connecting to servers, sometime the computers won't connect. The servers are Apple xserves, running OS 10.6 server.

The way the people login to the server is

press start, select run. type \\staff.servername.com

    Then the login/password box appears.

Person type in their login/ password, and has the option to save password. In most cases, I've mapped the drives, as well.

Also, the login/password to the machine may be different than what is used to login to the server, since the users are on the local machine.

So, what happens is when the person goes to login, it won't accept their password. Even though the account is valid. For example, the person couldn't login to their account on the server, so I logged them out of the machine, logged in as administrator, and used their password to login to the server, just fine. Logged into the machine and guess what, it didn't work.

So, I'm thinking theres a file on the machine with all this information, and for the life of me I don't know what it's called, or where it's at. If someone can tell me the name, I would appreciate it

    Thanks!

Windows servers limit the connections to the number of CALs (Client Access Licenses) you have purchased, however, I was under the impression that Apple servers do not have this limitation. However, I could be wrong.

I believe you are correct about the Apple servers being unlimited. The problem is I can use that persons login, and login from another pc, or even another user on their pc, but just not from their user account on their pc. In other words the login/password works correctly from anywhere but where I want it to. And it used to work there as well.

Oh, well. I'll keep doing research. I will post back if I come up with an answer.
