Resolved [RESOLVED] Bios does not see DVD player

I can't boot from my DVD because it is not recognized by the bios. It is recognized by Windows though: it appears in My computer.
My settings: Windows 7 64 bits, LG DVD player, motherboard = Asus P5N.

    Thank you for your help.

I wouldn't worry too much about it being recognised, optical drives don't always seem to show in recent BIOSes - I don't think mine does. The important thing is to find the bit in the BIOS Setup which controls Boot order and set that to boot from CDROM first, and HDD second. If you mobo allows it, you can set CDROM first, flash drives second and HDD third.

OK, but this is exactly what I did, and as I said, I can't boot from my DVD. Thank you for you reply anyway.

Download Ultimate Boot CD and burn the image to CD, and see if you can boot from that:

    Ultimate Boot CD

It's a very handy thing to have anyway. If you can boot from it, then there is a problem with the Windows disc (which is not unheard of).

I suppose I have a clue: I changed the bios setting OS select for DRAM > 64 Mb to OS 2 and amazingly (for me at least) booting from DVD is now possible.

Your idea is still useful and I thank you for it, it may be at use some day!

Well, I never would have thought of that one!

Thanks for posting back with the answer, it may help someone else from pulling their hair out in the future
